Male, 24, 165lb My back tooth filling fell out a few years ago and recently it started to abscess a bit so it’s for sure infected. I know this type of stuff is really dangerous and can spread to your brain and your heart. I would like to know if I should go to a grocery store pharmacy and get the f
I am 5' 11" 200lbs, white. I do not drink or smoke. I occasionally have edibles. This has been happening for so long and I've been told, or had it insinuated, that this is in my head so much that I'm reluctant to continue pursuing trying to get better, but this is going to be my last sh
**A recent rant post triggered me into writing my own. Skip it if you want to avoid suffocating negativity.** "Pharmacists are the most accessible Healthcare Professionals!" was a mantra regurgitated towards me with glee all throughout college (which was over 15 years ago, for me). This sentence was
30/female/USA. 5’6”, 165 lbs. white. non smoker. no medications My cat bit me on Sunday night. I went to urgent care yesterday where I was given a tetanus booster and started on antibiotics. The doctor said the antibiotics (amoxicillin) won’t take effect for about 24 hours so my finger will remain
Hey guys, I really need help with this one. Scenario happened yesterday and I can’t tell you how pissed off I was/still am. Even one of my techs took notice and asked if I needed to take a minute, which I did, and I almost never do. Anyway here’s the scenario, would appreciate any feedback/support/a
Edit to add update (1/16): he saw his regular pediatrician today and she DID take me seriously (after I showed her a video of him sobbing as he limped to the bathroom this morning...). Her main concern is rheumatic fever, he does have several of the symptoms but she suggested trying a higher dose an
I’m an urgent care PA, and I’m just sending out a general thanks to all the pharmacists for being wonderful and helping with medication questions! I occasionally have questions regarding the odd medication, and I’ve always had amazing help from the local pharmacies. For example, I recently had a
Update: the wound is starting to close, she’s almost finished her antibiotics. There’s no more drainage or signs of infection. She is very frustrated that she can’t swim and wants to superglue it together herself. What should I tell her? My friend [22F]was bitten by a monkey in Thailand three days a

usually when a prescriber writes macrodantin 100 mg bid, i generally call them up and they're okay with changing it to macrobid 100 mg bid. but today i talked to a dr who pushed back a little bit (although still very polite and professional.) I said my usual spiel about how out of the 2, macrobid i
Tell me what would you do? The caveat is I told them we’re closing in 5 minutes and it’s not a good idea to call the Dr now (on the phone) ) to send it at our location and that there’s a 24 h pharmacy a block away. At 2 minutes she shows up and tells me Dr just sent it? And what if the line was long
Hey! My wife (F29) got a blister on the pinky finger a few days ago. Initially we both thought it was just a blister, but it has progressed quite significantly now to the point where we are unsure what it is. So, I went to urgent care on Monday since I noticed a few things were happening. My first symptom was two swollen lymph nodes on the back left side of my neck. Then a general swelling started the day after, in that area. That evening I had pretty intense chills while going to bed and the next mornin

Can someone explain the point of this to me? Assuming you're treating cellulitis. Bactrim would cover both MRSA and MSSA...keflex would cover MSSA... So if you think there is a risk of MRSA why not just do Bactrim. Or, if you think MSSA why not just do Bactrim. Why do both? I did a quick uptoda
How long is a reasonable treatment duration for chronic osteomyelitis? I have a patient due to receive one year of cephalexin 500mg bid. Treatment guidelines say typical discharge oral antibiotic therapy is 8 weeks. I know the disease course can be relapsing, but do some people receive prophylaxis?
See relevant reddit post in a DarkNet sub [here](https://redd.it/3cp4vl). Basically, you can find cephalexin 500mg, amoxicillin 250mg, penicillin 500mg, etc. OTC in pet stores. I had no idea this was a thing. A couple Google searches for these products confirmed it. Obviously, I'm not going to reco
My favorite are the Cephalexin and Amoxicillin Suspensions because you just slap a label on them (and when you mix them it smells good). My least favorite is a tie between Warfarin and Spironolactone. I hate the scent of Spironolactone and hand counting Warfarin is a pain in my ass.
