usually when a prescriber writes macrodantin 100 mg bid, i generally call them up and they're okay with changing it to macrobid 100 mg bid. but today i talked to a dr who pushed back a little bit (although still very polite and professional.) I said my usual spiel about how out of the 2, macrobid i
Tell me what would you do? The caveat is I told them we’re closing in 5 minutes and it’s not a good idea to call the Dr now (on the phone) ) to send it at our location and that there’s a 24 h pharmacy a block away. At 2 minutes she shows up and tells me Dr just sent it? And what if the line was long
Hey! My wife (F29) got a blister on the pinky finger a few days ago. Initially we both thought it was just a blister, but it has progressed quite significantly now to the point where we are unsure what it is. [Here is what the pinky finger looks like](https://imgur.com/a/NAzODn0) (note: it looks sli
So, I went to urgent care on Monday since I noticed a few things were happening. My first symptom was two swollen lymph nodes on the back left side of my neck. Then a general swelling started the day after, in that area. That evening I had pretty intense chills while going to bed and the next mornin
15M, 166 cm, 84 kg(??), 11 months of Ear Infection , currently drinking Amoxiclav I'm in dire need of your advice. I might also vent throughout the post because I feel frustrated at their superstitions over health. I was washing my face when a small water droplet entered my right ear i
Can someone explain the point of this to me? Assuming you're treating cellulitis. Bactrim would cover both MRSA and MSSA...keflex would cover MSSA... So if you think there is a risk of MRSA why not just do Bactrim. Or, if you think MSSA why not just do Bactrim. Why do both? I did a quick uptoda
How long is a reasonable treatment duration for chronic osteomyelitis? I have a patient due to receive one year of cephalexin 500mg bid. Treatment guidelines say typical discharge oral antibiotic therapy is 8 weeks. I know the disease course can be relapsing, but do some people receive prophylaxis?
See relevant reddit post in a DarkNet sub [here](https://redd.it/3cp4vl). Basically, you can find cephalexin 500mg, amoxicillin 250mg, penicillin 500mg, etc. OTC in pet stores. I had no idea this was a thing. A couple Google searches for these products confirmed it. Obviously, I'm not going to reco
My favorite are the Cephalexin and Amoxicillin Suspensions because you just slap a label on them (and when you mix them it smells good). My least favorite is a tie between Warfarin and Spironolactone. I hate the scent of Spironolactone and hand counting Warfarin is a pain in my ass.

I posted about this last night. I didn't get any responses with helpful information, so I'm reposting the relevant info I gave then below. Since I made my first post, I've lost **ALL HEARING** in my right ear. I'm sorry if this isn't kosher, I'm just so afraid and frustrated and helpless. I'm a whi

Hey all! 11 YO female, 5 ft, 91 pounds. No preexisting health conditions. You may remember me from a month ago. My daughter was the one with severe head and eye pain and super high fevers that were hard to break. Someone told me, in the middle of the night, to take her to the ER. I got flamed becaus
***Update 9/20*** All of his pending tests were negative, the last one we were waiting for was Rocky Mountain spotted fever and it too, was negative. We did follow up labs today though and his WBC dropped in half. At its peak it was 20.5 and now it’s 10.4, well within the limits of normal. The only
Just got done with a bizarre encounter with a patient and since we’ve had issues with this patient in the past, I’m actually wondering if she’s making the whole thing up. Apparently, her doctor specifically told her to **ignore any recommendations or advice from the pharmacist that works at this sp
Hospital pharmacist here, just here to vent as I found this incredibly frustrating and even scary. I was working from home today when my wife had a tele-health visit with her PCP. She’s pending Covid results and often suffers from sinusitis. She’s also allergic to penicillin (true allergy- anaphylax
What was I thinking?! I’m panicking bc I knew better. I was getting ready to give a COVID vaccine and the pt casually mentions he’s got double pneumonia…. I was like what? I asked did the MD clear him for vaccines and did he have a fever. He said yes then no, in that order and insisted on getting it
I was sent an RX for doxycycline with no dx code. I faxed the doctor, noting that doxycycline can cause permanent teeth staining in children. He literally faxed me a study where kids who took it for Rocky Mountain Spotted fever had no teeth staining and said to dispense it. What are your thoughts o
